Pot
2021
Project at Loughborough UniversityPot is a concept for indoor plant care, exploring how a planter can feel at home alongside everyday furniture and objects.
The project focuses on a rounded form and a combination of layered plywood, soft fabric and a pale green planting insert. CAD studies and an appearance model explore its proportions and material character.
The sloping rim gives the simple cylindrical body a distinctive profile. Exposed plywood layers follow the curve, while a fabric band breaks up the wooden surface and adds a softer texture.A separate planting insert sits within the outer body. The appearance model brings the parts together at full scale, showing how the pale green interior, wood and fabric sit alongside a living plant.
Sketches explore rounded forms, angled rims and the division of the planter body.
Early sketches explored rounded silhouettes, angled openings and different ways of dividing the body. The selected direction combines a circular footprint with a sloping upper edge.
CAD studies developed the proportions and the arrangement of the separate parts before physical model making.
The workshop process developed the layered plywood body through shaping, sanding and assembly. The finished appearance model translates the digital proposal into a physical object, allowing its scale, surface finish and material contrasts to be considered together.
